What we actually do

People here want a fountain that sits in a real yard — live oak, pavers that already heave, a lanai that faces west and cooks the basin at 4 p.m.

Downtown lots near Sims Park are tight. A three-tier garden-center fountain eats the whole courtyard. We would rather set a single bowl with a proper splash rim than crowd the walk with a wedding-cake that throws water onto the front door.
