Pasco freezes a few nights a year. That is enough to split a bowl and ruin a pump.

Not Michigan. Still: drain or run, and do not leave a half-full urn to freeze in January.

We do not get Chicago winters. We get a handful of nights that go below freezing, usually with people who forgot they owned a fountain. That is enough.

A pump running in a full basin often survives a Pasco freeze better than a half-empty urn that splits. A pump sitting dry in a drained basin also survives. A pump in a skim of ice does not.

Snowbirds: put the fountain on a person, not on a hope. A neighbor who will shut it down or a timer and a full basin — pick one before you leave.

Pottery urns split more than thick limestone. If we install an urn, we tell you it is the piece that needs a night-of-freeze plan.

We would rather get a January call to shut it down than a March call to replace a bowl. Both are available. One is cheaper.
