Start with where it will sit at 4 p.m. in August. West sun, golf wind, oak litter, canal salt — pick the one your yard actually has.

Then scale. Downtown NPR and Jasmine Estates and Timber Greens want small. Odessa can take a fall. Longleaf wants something that looks like the elevation.

Then the committee, if you have one. Then the panel. Then the piece. Reversing that order is how you own a fountain in the garage.

White stone under oak is a cleaning hobby. Pottery in a freeze is a split. Tall spray on a canal is a wet boat. We will be blunt.

If you already have a photo you like, send it. We will say whether it works on this lot.

Budget is a filter. Repair band gets a pump. Small-install band gets an urn. Courtyard band gets a bowl with a packet. Waterfall band needs grade. Crossing those lines on purpose is how people get mad at the quote.
