Home · Bowl vs pondless

Bowls for courtyards. Pondless for grade. Do not mix them up to chase a search.

Trinity wants a bowl. Odessa wants a fall. Downtown NPR does not want either at resort scale.

A courtyard bowl is a object in a hardscape. It needs a rim, a quiet pump, and a committee that can picture it. That is Trinity, Longleaf, Starkey Ranch, Sims Park, villa patios.

A pondless waterfall is a grade, a vault, and stone. It needs room and a rear yard. That is Odessa, Lutz Lake Fern, some River Ridge lots. It is not a front setback in a paint-deck HOA.

People ask for both. We pick one. A bowl with a tiny 'waterfall' attached is usually two half-jobs.

Kids and dogs: neither is a playground. Pondless is less of an open-water problem than a pond. A shallow bowl at a lanai is the usual family answer in Mill Run.

Money: bowls can be smaller tickets. Pondless is stone and time. If your budget is the repair band, you are not in the waterfall conversation yet.

Questions we get on this street

Can I start with a bowl and add a waterfall later?

You can start with a bowl. Adding a fall later is a new hole, not an accessory.

Notes from the yard

Freeze nights, algae, room on the truck. A few times a year. Not a weekly blast.
